JP's need a non detergent SAE 30, the sludge needs to settle in the bottom of the sump/tank rather than held in suspension and pumped around the engine. Posted September 6, 2013. I'm thinking of going to look at a recently advertised narrowboat with a JP3 engine. From the photograph of the engine, it looks as though its an industrial model with a dry exhaust and a PRM gearbox bolted to a plate on the flywheel housing rather than a marinised version with the flywheel at the other end.

Yes. That's an odd one. But not the first I've seen on a Lister. Odd too that it's rated at 1100 rpm. The early 9/1 engines were rated at 1000 rpm but the later 18/2, 27/3, JP and JPM engines were rated at 1200rpm. Posted January 19, 2021. A CAV BS5 or BS6 is the right size starter motor. The BS5 ( 5 in body diameter) is available in 12V or 24V. I think a BS6 may only be a 24V device. Both are axial starters where the pinion is brought into mesh automatically by the working of the starter. The whole armature slides axially.
10/24/2016. Apr 29, 2009. #2. Put fresh fuel into the tank after draining out any old stuff. Change the engine oil. Check the injection pump cambox for oil level. Bleed through to the filters and then the injection pump. If you have the fuel overload pawl on the injection pump rack, set that for starting (excess fuel position)
What might be of more interest to the forum is that the seller states he has numerous other engines for sale. Yes the owner has a few engines but the only other boat engine is a ha2 on a generator that he wants 2k for, well given there are alot cheaper ha2 about or for 2.3k there is a full marine ha2 with box about.
Hi there, I recently had to replace a big end bearing shell, one piston and all the piston rings on my JP3 Blackstone. Unfortunately something went wrong after just 2 hours of running. The pistin rings in cilinder nr 2 have made big scratches in the cilinder lining and has to be replaced. Not sure what went wrong tho.
